June 13: Teatro Romano, Tour of the Bay of Cádiz

Today was another busy day spent near the Atlantic Ocean. After meeting for classes, we boarded a bus with our teacher, Rosa, and headed into the old city to take in an art exhibit at the ECCO (Espacio de Cultura Contemporánea de Cádiz). After the exhibition we had time to eat lunch and do some shopping in the old town before our afternoon tour with Álvaro. Today's excursion was a big one. First we visited the Teatro Romano (the second largest in all of Europe and the oldest on the Iberian Peninsula) in the Pópulo neighborhood, then Álvaro gave us a scavenger hunt, which we completed in groups of two or three. After the scavenger hunt, we walked down to the port, where we boarded two sailboats for a tour of the bay of Cádiz. Although there wasn't enough wind to put up the sails, we had a great time relaxing and/or dancing, depending on our boat. After the “three-hour tour,” we returned to port and walked back to Plaza de San Juan de Dios to find dinner and do a bit of shopping.
