June 16: La Alhambra

This morning we enjoyed a huge breakfast at the hotel and then made our way to La Plaza de Isabel la Católica, where we caught the bus up the hill to La Alhambra. Before we entered, Álvaro explained the history of La Alhambra and the different sections of the palace complex we were about to visit. We started in the Generalife, the gardens kept by the Nazarid emirs who first built the palace-fortress. Then we crossed the grounds to look at La Puerta de la Justicia, one of the original defensive gates of La Alhambra, and El Palacio de Carlos V. From there we climbed to the top of the Alcazaba (fortress) before entering the main palace complex. The main palace complex is home to the Mexuar,  the Patio de los Comares, and the Patio de los Leones. After our visit to La Alhambra we had time to grab lunch in Granada before loading the bus for our return trip to Cádiz.
